21827VIC Anaphylaxis Awareness course 

anaphylaxis awareness courseThis course provides staff and carers with a knowledge of anaphylaxis to enable them to maintain a safe and healthy environment in which a person at risk of anaphylaxis can participate equally in all aspects of the workplace and recreational activities, including children’s services programs and schools. 

This course is designed to:
Raise awareness about allergies and anaphylaxis amongst staff, carers, parents and the community
Actively involve staff, carers and parents responsible for a person at risk of anaphylaxis to be able to assess risks, develop risk minimisation strategies and management strategies for an individual person in their care with anaphylaxis
Ensure staff and other relevant adults caring for a person with anaphylaxis have adequate knowledge of allergies, anaphylaxis and emergency procedures
Facilitate communication to ensure the safety and wellbeing of a person at risk of anaphylaxis.

Pre-/Co-requisites 

There are no prerequisite for attendance i.e. current CPR is not required 

Students must be 16 years or older. Students under 16 years must provide written permission to attend the course from their parent or guardian.
 

Duration

3 Hours 

Award 

On successful completion of the course, the participant will receive a Statement of Attainment, which is valid for 3 years. 

Assessment 

To gain statement of attainment participants will have to achieve competency or complete: 
Recognition of allergy and anaphylaxis – Scenario tested competency 
Administer an EpiPen – Scenario tested competency 
Demonstrate knowledge of policy/allergy – True/False knowledge test 
Complete a Risk Assessment in Workplace – this will be a random follow up within 6 weeks of participant completing the course
