Emergency Asthma Management Course

emergency asthma management courseThis a three hour training course that is valid for three years.

The Emergency Asthma Management Course is appropriate for people in a position where they hold a ‘duty of care’, for example sports coaches, childcare workers, preschool teachers, workplaces etc.

This course is principally designed to provide participants the necessary information, skills and confidence to assist a person during an asthma 'attack'.

The core Asthma Awareness module provides more in-depth information on asthma, recognition of asthma, the day-to-day management of asthma, including triggers and how to minimise them, types of asthma medications and delivery devices. On completion participants will be equipped to assess and manage an asthma emergency, be able to recognise signs and symptoms of worsening asthma and to carry out Asthma First Aid. There are six elective modules that address specific asthma management issues within specialised settings: Children's services, workplace, schools, sport, remote area and supported care

The Course in Emergency Asthma Management also provides the mechanism to enable an organization to purchase and hold reliever medication (bronchodilator) for use in an asthma emergency.

This Course also meets one of the criteria to become an Asthma Friendly Children's Service.
